Hiralal Ramniwas Post Graduate College, Khalilabad, Sant Kabir Nagar is a premier educational institution of Eastern Uttar Pradesh affiliated with Siddhartha University, Kapilvastu, Siddharthanagar. The college was established in July 1966 under the affiliation of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University. It received permanent affiliation in 1971 and is the only Grant-in-Aid Postgraduate College of Sant Kabir Nagar District.
The college was founded by Late Shri Kudilal Ji Rungta and Late Shri Ram Kripal Ji Rungta — renowned businessmen and philanthropists — in the sacred memory of Late Shri Hiralal Ji Rungta and Late Shri Ram Niwas Ji Rungta. They established this institution in a rural area to provide excellent academic opportunities to students of Eastern UP who would otherwise have no access to higher education.
The college is administered by the Hiralal Ram Niwas Educational Society, registered by the Registrar of Societies. It is included in the University Grants Commission's Sections 2F and 12B. The college has been accredited by NAAC in two cycles — receiving "B" Grade with CGPA 2.24 in the first cycle and "B" Grade with CGPA 2.82 on 17th March 2016 in the second cycle.
The college offers undergraduate courses — B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., B.C.A., B.B.A., and B.Ed. — as well as postgraduate courses including M.A. in Hindi, Geography, Ancient History, Political Science, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Home Science; M.Sc. in Botany, Chemistry, Zoology; and M.Com. The college also has Ph.D. programmes in Hindi, Geography, Political Science, Ancient History, Education, Sociology, and Commerce.
The college boasts a strong research profile with more than 200 research papers in SCI/SCOPUS/UGC-CARE indexed journals and international/national refereed journals, books, book-chapters, and conference proceedings in the last five years.
Spread over a sprawling 4-acre campus with more than 60% green cover, the college has been awarded the "District Green Champion" by MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India — with initiatives including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient lighting and cooling, and integrated composting facilities. The college is also accessible to differently-abled students.
The college has an IGNOU Study Centre for distance education. The departments, cells, clubs, societies, and Students' Union organise conferences, seminars, workshops, sporting events, and other co-curricular, extra-curricular, and outreach activities. Meritorious and needy students are provided scholarships and financial aid.
